An evening of razzle-dazzle, canapés and carols!

Go to the University of Waikato’s Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts to join in a joyous pre-Christmas performance by Hamilton Civic Choir conducted by Francis Cowan.

The Choir will be performing excerpts from Victor Herbert’s operettas Babes in Toyland and Naughty Marietta. Babes in Toyland weaves together characters and themes from the Mother Goose nursery rhymes, creating a spectacular, Christmas-themed musical extravaganza. The show features many of Victor Herbert’s most beloved songs, including “Toyland,” “Never Mind Bopeep, We Will Find Your Sheep,” and “Hail to Christmas.”

Originally produced in New York, Naughty Marietta became Victor Herbert’s greatest success. Set in New Orleans in 1780, it tells how Captain Richard Warrington is commissioned to unmask and capture a notorious French pirate calling himself ‘Bras Pique’- and how he is helped and hindered by a high-spirited runaway Contessa Marietta. The show features many well-known songs, including “Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life.”

In addition, the Choir will perform some very appealing Christmas carols like A Merry Christmas, Joy To The World, and as well as the ever-popular Jingle Bells, which will add even more to an evening of Christmas cheer.

We promise you will leave with a smile on your face and an extra spring in your step. Please join us!
